Peaceful Gumbaz in Srirangapatna

The Gumbaz in Srirangapatna is Tipu Sultan’s final resting place. The sultan built the mausoleum in Persian style for his parents. After his assassination in the 1700s, he was buried, under the Gumbaz next to his parents.

I’ve been going to The Gumbaz since I was little. I have a vivid image of my grandmother bending down and putting a green chador over Tipu Sultan’s grave.

Even though the Gumbaz was crowded with tourists, I felt peaceful here. It was like coming back to childhood.
